I was at Worsbrough High from 1960-1964 I went into the coal industry and worked for 24 years and then went overseas to work since then I have worked in the Russian Federation and have just come back after 8 years in Ghana west Africa and Ethiopia. I came past the school the other day and was surprised at the changes made and often wonder how other people who were ther at the same time are doing now if any are out there please feel free to contact. I left 'White Cross' to go to college in 1973. As an Assistant Headteacher working in a large Liverpool school, I would like to congratulate all the current staff on their hard work in making the school a success again.

Hi, I am now retired and a grandfather. I still often reflect on my day's White Cross School from 1948 to 1953, I was not that bright in those day's, often came bottom of D class, along with The Arthur Scargill, Still remember Miss Johnson, Mr Lumley, and the cane of Mr Hildreth (headmaster) Still have the Bible I was given on leaving school. Easter 1953. Keep up the Good work, I turned out fine eventually even became a Baptist Pastor. God's richest blessings to you all. Michael Porter, New Zealand.

What excellent times we had at Worsbrough High School. Mr Lavelle was the headmaster, and he led brilliantly. We had our moments - ambushing Kendray's coach after a certain football game, sneaking into the Dalesman if we could get away with it. But... in all honesty, i enjoyed the schooling at White Cross, and as a result here i am running my own business in London for the third consecutive year.
By the way; whatever happened to 'the bumps'?

I was a pupil at this school 1981 - 1986 - when it was Worsbrough High (or White Cross as it was known then), And Mr Lavelle was head. Had many good times here. Cant believe how the school has changed. There were no steel fences back then, times change I suppose.

I attended this school from 1979-85 and I amazed to see mention of teachers on the site from the days when I was there. I know the school has changed a lot, but how proud you must feel to have your names remembered 20 years down the line as people who bought education to life. It's quite scary really, there cannot be many employment opportunities out there that offer the opportunity for such fame.
Best wishes
Maria

I have just spent 7 days in the school after being told all the pupils were as bad as bad as they come i was was very pleased that i was lied to . All who i came across were helpful ,polite and a little cheeky but no worse than in any other school in Barnsley keep up with all the hard work you are doing.

Would just like to say that it seems like the school is improving from when I was there and its just a shame that something like this wasnt up and running a long time ago its an excellent idea to have something like this so that even pupils who have left can keep a tab on what you are doing without the daunting aspect of actually returning to school. And I know I still cant get the hang of making my sentences shorter and ending in an appropriate place without rambling on again first.

Thanks to all my teachers.

Would also just like to say a special Thankyou to my Year 11 form tutor Mrs Randall and my mentor Mr Farmer for all the support and understanding you gave me in my final year no matter how big a strop I got into.

A lot of the teachers probably remember me especially Mrs Bradbury, I was a bit of a problem child, which i regret, I just want to say im sorry to them all and thank them for making me the person I am today, i'm really am grateful and I never thought id say it but I miss school a lot, even though they know it Mrs Bradbury was an inspiration to me, no matter how bad I was, how rude I got , she never gave up on me an for that I love her dearly, Mr Tagger whenever I said ''I cant dot it'' he used to say ''theres no such word as cant Kelly you CAN do it'' and I always did it.

Mrs Parnham my form teacher when I was 11e in 2002, was always tryin to get me doing charity work an always telling me I was better than the immature ones , an all the certificates I got for the charity really helped me in getting jobs, Mrs Parnham has a heart of gold.

I could go on forever about the teachers an how they influenced me but I wont, if you are reading this and are a student at that school now then, please treasure your teachers an the things they say an do cos later in life you will regret it if you dont, I wish you all well, take care xxx
